Families seeking to improve their children’s math skills are encouraged to enroll them in Mathnasium of Hancock Park’s programs for students in the 1st through 12th grades. New owner, Sidney Jackson Jr., said the start of the school year is the perfect time to get students involved in the enrichment programs. Students receive instruction in understanding the concepts of mathematics, as opposed to simply learning how to solve problems. The approach enables them to advance quickly in their studies, and potentially surpass the requirements of their current grade levels.
“It’s designed for students who want to get up to speed, or who want to get ahead of the curve,” Jackson said. “We make sure the child understands the concepts of math, why you get the answer and how you get the answer.”
Jackson added that the students are overseen by trained instructors, not tutors, in addressing whatever gaps may exist in their abilities. They are also prepared for placement testing and given the foundation necessary for mastering mathematics for college. Instruction is available in basic concepts through algebra, geometry, calculus and trigonometry. Comprehensive assessments and homework assistance is available, and programs are customized to meet each student’s individual needs.
