The accident occurred as the officers were responding with lights and sirens to another traffic collision at an undisclosed location nearby. The police SUV was traveling westbound on Sunset Boulevard when the collision occurred, according to Sgt. L. Calderone, with the LAPD‘s Hollywood Division. The other vehicle, a Toyota sedan, was heading northbound on Wilcox Avenue.
The exact details of the collision are being investigated by detectives with the LAPD’s West Traffic Division. The civilian driver was not cited, and alcohol or drugs were not a factor, according to authorities.
“The officers were en route code three (with emergency lights and sirens) to a traffic accident radio call, and as they were going through the intersection, they were involved in a collision with another vehicle,” Calderone said. “The driver of the other vehicle did not complain of injuries. The officers complained of injuries.”
Calderone said a male officer was driving the police SUV, and was taken to the hospital after complaining of pain in his shoulder. A female officer who was riding in the passenger seat complained of neck pain, and was also taken to the hospital.
The intersection was closed for approximately two hours while the investigation was conducted. Traffic in the area was heavily congested during the evening rush hour as vehicles were diverted through surrounding neighborhoods.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact detectives with the LAPD’s West Traffic Division at (213)473-0234.

I saw this! I live above this intersection and see police blow through red lights this intersection all the time. And I always think they are going to kill somebody. Even with lights and flashers on emergency vehicles are supposed to slow down and make sure nobody is coming before they go through a red light. They definitely did not this time. I felt so bad for this poor woman they hit and was shocked she was not injured. Nobody came for her, but within minutes there were dozens of uniformed officers, at least 8 or so police cars, and LAPD helicopter circling overhead to come to the aid of the police officers who were not following traffic laws and hit her easily going over 50mph through a red light and never touched his breaks. I hope the driver was cited for hitting this poor girl.
