A 67-year-old defendant entered a guilty plea on July 21 for the killing of a Koreatown resident found beaten to death in his apartment.

Deputy District Attorney Sabrina Corsa said the defendant, Roy Lee Adams, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted to three prior convictions for which he received state prison sentences.

Adams is expected to be sentenced to nine years in prison at a hearing scheduled on Aug. 5 in Department 37 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

The body of Cornelius Rich, 62, was found in his apartment approximately 10 days after his death in March 2013. The victim’s body was only discovered because the apartment manager for the building in the 500 block of Kingsley Drive received complaints about a smell coming from the unit, the prosecutor said. The men knew each other prior to Rich’s death, the prosecutor added. The case was investigated by detectives with the LAPD’s Olympic Division.
