West Hollywood sheriff’s deputies arrested a 26-year-old man from Santa Monica on May 15 after he bit two security guards during a confrontation outside The Abbey Food and Bar near Santa Monica and Robertson boulevards.

Lt. Michael White, with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, said the suspect, Carlos Moxson, was turned away at the door by security guards because he appeared to be under the influence. The suspect then became confrontational.

“He got upset, and it’s alleged that he spit on one of the guards and he threw a couple of punches,” White said. “They grabbed him and he bit two security officers. They detained him for police. He was uncooperative with deputies.”

Deputies arrested Moxson, and he was taken by paramedics to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries suffered during the scuffle with the guards. Moxson was later booked for battery. Investigators are in the process of formally filing criminal charges against Moxson, White said.

“When somebody bites someone, it’s pretty serious. There are lots of bacteria. It’s not just a fight,” White added.

The security guards did not require hospitalization but were instructed to seek medical treatment, White said. Moxson was taken to jail after receiving treatment, and was later released from custody pending the filing of formal charges.
