Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze last Sunday on the roof of a three-story apartment building at the corner of 3rd Street and St. Andrews Place before the flames damaged residential units in the structure.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said the fire was reported at approximately 10:50 a.m. at the building at 301 S. St. Andrews Place.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke emanating from the top of the building, and the blaze was located in an equipment room on the roof. Approximately 85 firefighters extinguished the flames in 17 minutes.

No estimate of loss or damage was available, and the fire was contained to the roof and equipment room.

Scott said there is no indication that the fire was started intentionally, but the LAFD’s Arson Unit is investigating. There are no reports of the building being evacuated, he added.
