Congregation Bais Naftoli will celebrate its 22nd anniversary at a breakfast on Sunday, June 1 at 9:30 a.m., when Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell, and community leader and philanthropist, Ira Frankel, will be honored. Leading rabbis and federal, state, county and city officials are expected to join the celebration. Attorney Andrew Friedman (right), president of Congregation Bais Naftoli, is pictured with McDonnell (center) and Frankel. The congregation, which is composed of Holocaust survivors and modern American professionals, provides charitable services throughout Southern California to people in need of food, clothing and shelter.
McDonnell, who is running for Los Angeles County Sheriff, began his law enforcement career in 1981. He previously served as second in command in the Los Angeles Police Department and has served as chief of police in Long Beach since March 2010.
Frankel heads his own CPA firm, which he took over from the previous firm of Zipperstein and Associates. In addition to providing accounting services and business advice, he frequently assists members of the community on a pro bono basis. Frankel’s parents emigrated from Hungary during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
The anniversary breakfast will be held at Congregation Bais Naftoli, 221 S. La Brea Ave. For information and to RSVP, call (323)931-2476.
