A 34-year-old West Hollywood resident was found stabbed to death on March 29 in an apartment he shared with another man in the 900 block of Palm Ave. Police allege the roommate killed the victim and then took a large amount of prescription pills in an attempt to take his own life.
The suspect was identified as Andre Damiane Davids, 36. He was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and treated for an overdose. He is now facing a murder charge and is being held in the Los Angeles County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
The victim was identified as Kurtland Ma, 34. Lt. John Corina, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau, said the victim and the suspect were in a dating relationship, and had lived in the residence for approximately six months. Corina said the motive is believed to have been an argument between the two men.
An unidentified individual called deputies at approximately 4:55 p.m. and asked them to conduct a welfare check at the apartment. When no one answered the door, they forced entry and found the victim lying on the kitchen floor suffering from multiple stab wounds. The deputies also located Davids hiding in the bathroom. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The victim was a doctor at Gardena Memorial Hospital, Corina said. No further information was available about the suspect.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact detectives with the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323)890-5500.
