The Baldwin Hills eatery helmed by Executive Chef Govind Armstrong offers seasonal California cuisine with a touch of soul. For Easter brunch, Chef Armstrong will serve wings and waffles, made with fried maple glazed wings atop cornmeal waffles and drizzled with smoked chili pepper syrup. For Easter, Catch in Santa Monica offers a prix-fixe, three-course meal with dishes including tuna crudo with pickled chanterelles, shaved radish, and olive oil; duet of lamb with rack and shoulder, ricotta cavatelli, fava beans, thyme, and wild mushrooms; and lemon panna cotta with farmers’ market strawberries and basil. Cafe del Rey
Executive Chef Chuck Abair derives culinary inspiration from the abundance of California spring produce, such as asparagus, beets, fennel, and fava beans in addition to seafood sourced from local purveyors. Offered alongside sparkling wine and cider, mimosas, and Bloody Marys, the menu spotlights a taste of the Mediterranean with dishes such as grilled asparagus salad with wild mushrooms, fried egg, shaved parmesan, and black truffle vinaigrette; crab cake sandwich served on an English muffin with arugula, shaved fennel, piquillo pepper, and tzatziki; short rib hash with roasted red potato, shallots, garlic, spinach, and fried eggs; salmon with corn purée, fava beans, red bell peppers, and green zucchini; and grilled tiger shrimp with curry cilantro marinade, farro, cucumber, edamame, haricot vert, and harissa vinaigrette. Executive Chef Giselle Wellman’s Easter menu includes caviar-centric dishes, such as the Petit Petrossian caviar service alongside classic brunch items like the eggs Benedict with caviar or brisket hash. Sweet treats like the coconut panna cotta egg cup, spice carrot cake with cream cheese frosting; or the Valrhona bunny cake round out the exclusive holiday menu. The signature egg royale features soft scrambled egg with creamy vodka whipped cream, and topped with the restaurant’s signature caviar. This decadent confection is served in the egg shell, which on Easter will be colorfully dyed reminiscent of childhood egg hunts. Café Pinot is offering a special three-course Easter brunch for $55 per adult and $19 for children under 12 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Start with a pastry basket filled with croissants, muffins, chocolate brioche, scones and strawberry jam. The first course includes a carrot cardamom soup, McGrath Farms beet salad or Hamachi. On Easter from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., a special three-course menu is $38 for adults and $19 for children under 12. The first course includes a mushroom Veloute soup, baker’s basket with an assortment of breakfast pastries and preserved fruit, yogurt parfait and salmon tarte. Main dishes range from buttermilk pancakes with caramelized bananas, and whipped cream or a garden frittata with roasted fingerling, bell peppers, zucchini, tomato Basquaise, spinach, and petite salad. For heartier fare order the steak and eggs, quiche Lorraine, toasted brioche club or a croque monsieur or croque madame. Finish with coffee and a special chocolate cake. CHAYA Restaurants
This Easter Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., each CHAYA restaurant will be offering a three-course brunch with bottomless champagne for a set price of $45 per person. Tweeners under 12 years old are $20. Guests are invited to select from a number of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Those visiting the CHAYA Brasserie in Beverly Hills will have access to an unlimited dessert bar. Menu highlights include Downtown’s Maine lobster and rock shrimp bahn mi sandwich. In Beverly Hills, they offer a blood orange and rosemary olive oil gelato and in Venice they will serve a pappardelle and American Kobe beef bolognese. A celebration of the great flavors of France heralds the 19th Annual Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation’s (JCCF) fundraiser on Friday, April 25 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures Television, receives the Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award, named in honor of JCCF supporter Gil Nickel, proprietor of Napa Valley’s Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel and Dolce wineries, who lost a courageous battle with melanoma in 2003. Motion picture and television actor Joel McHale will present to Mosko. Beverly Wilshire Hotel’s distinguished Executive Chef Gilles Arzur, a native of Brittany, leads the list of award-winning French chefs bringing their finely honed talents to the evening’s gastronomic portion. The evening also features musical entertainment and a one-of-a-kind live auction. Joe Cohen, Jon Holman, Larry Maguire, Gary Newman, Jay Sures and Dana Walden are Dinner Co-Chairs. Cooking Class
The Westin Bonaventure is hosting the third culinary “Cooking on the Edge with Andreas Nieto and Jeffrey Williams” on Saturday, April 26. The menu starts with a first course of sous vide truffle infused white asparagus, tomato seed vinaigrette and toasted almonds with shaved burgundy truffle. Next is a double thick Niman ranch pork chop and brandied caramelized apricot. The third course is a dark rum caramel custard, sea salt caramel sauce and Oreo cookie crumbs. The class begins at 1 p.m. and costs $55 per person. Chef Andreas Nieto will guide participants as they prepare their own meals to enjoy at the Chef’s Table along with a wine tasting.
