A man was fatally shot and two women were injured while sitting inside a vehicle at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Feb. 9 in the 600 block of Shatto Place in Koreatown.

Police quickly arrested the suspected gunman after the decedent’s son, who was sitting in a car behind his father’s vehicle when the shooting occurred, drove after the male suspect who was on foot and struck him on Westmoreland Place, just south of Wilshire Boulevard. Patrol officers nearby witnessed the chase, and arrived at the scene within seconds of the gunman being struck. The gunman suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody. He has been identified as Tremayne Ware, 36. The incident is believed to be gang related, said Det. Steven Katz, with the LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide Unit.

“It is an unusual situation,” Katz said. “He was taken into custody immediately.”

Katz said the incident may have stemmed from an argument, although the investigation is still ongoing. The deceased victim, identified as Casey Clay, 49, had been at Club 3100 nightclub in the 3100 block of Wilshire Blvd. with his wife, son and niece prior to the shooting. Clay, his wife and his niece were in their car — followed by Clay’s son in another vehicle — and were preparing to leave a parking lot in the 600 block of Shatto Place when the gunman walked up and fired into Clay’s vehicle.

Clay was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the female victims was struck in the leg, and the other was shot in the upper body. Both were taken to the hospital, and are expected to recover, Katz said.

Ware has been booked for one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is currently being held in the Twin Towers jail facility in lieu of $1 million bail. The defendant is expected to be arraigned today, Feb. 13, in Los Angeles Superior Court.
