A former Los Angeles police officer charged in May with luring two young girls to his home has pleaded no contest to sexually molesting one girl and attempting to molest the second child, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced.

Miguel Angel Schiappapietra Jr., 28, is expected to be sentenced to three years in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender when he returns on Sept. 6 for sentencing before Judge Michael Abzug.

The six-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department was arrested in May after two girls, both under the age of 10, told detectives that Schiappapietra sexually molested them. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Unit investigated the case.

Deputy District Attorney Stephanie Sparagna, with the Justice System Integrity Division, said Judge Edmund Clarke allowed Schiappapietra to remain free on bail pending sentencing.
