Marilyn Monroe Dinner
On June 1, Marilyn Monroe would have celebrated her 87th birthday. Since Marilyn resided for two years at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Executive Chef Tim Goodell has created a “Marilyn, Always Remembered” menu at Public Kitchen & Bar. His whimsical menu features specialty cocktails, desserts and one of Marilyn’s favorite snacks. Fans and guests can enjoy these offerings during the month of June. Start with a Marilyn Suite cocktail with Neapolitan meatballs. This is a dish Marilyn learned to cook while married to Joe DiMaggio. Celebrating its 20th birthday, a special dinner will be served on June 8 offering a taste of Shutters history. Chefs of the past and present will join together for this one night. Far Niente, a legendary winery from Napa Valley will open its cellars to provide a prized Cabernet and Dolce bottled from 1993, the year the hotel opened. Start with an elegant cocktail reception at 7 p.m. on the pool deck overlooking the Pacific. Katana
Every Sunday on the stylish patio at Katana overlooking the famed Sunset Strip, a Red Sun BBQ will offer signature cocktail and menu items. Sit back and listen to the sounds of DJ XTC while nibbling on Kurobuta ribs and Hokkaido scallops in yuzu dressing with fresh kiwi. Guests will have the opportunity to order the exclusive Ichiban Shibori frozen Nama. Katana is one of three establishments in the U.S. that are pouring this Japanese frozen treat. The Kirin Ichiban draft topped with a frozen beer head keeps beer ice cold for 30 minutes. It goes well with Kakuni tacos filled with braised pork, avocado and spicy cabbage.

Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop

Executive Chef Kristi Ritchey is preparing “Smart Starts” made with egg whites, turkey bacon and aged cheddar on a whole wheat English muffin for $4.50. The newest Yard House located in the Marina Marketplace will present a $2,000 check to the Westside Food Bank during their ribbon cutting ceremony on May 31 at 4:30 p.m. This event is hosted by the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce. Vegan Night & Wine Pairing
Join Chef Roberto Martin, former chef for Ellen DeGeneres and author of “Vegan Cooking for Carnivores” is cooking with Makini Howell, owner of Plum Bistro, and Shawain Whyte, Executive Chef of Blossom Café in NYC on June 6, 7, 8 and 9 with two seatings at No Vacancy. The first is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wine pairing will be from Vegan Vines Wine. Some of the dishes served include hearts of palm ceviche with a chipotle crème and seaweed caviar canapé with avocado, white cheese batons and truffle oil. The trumpet mushroom scallops are served with a cauliflower purée and sweet onion jam. Finish with a black plum and sweet onion jam tart. LAWineFest
Arrive at the historic Raleigh Studios there for celebrity chef demonstrations, tasting classes and VIP access to some of the city’s hottest food trucks on June 8 and 9. This event benefits the homegrown charity Food Forward. Some of the seminars on June 8 include artisanal cheese and wine pairing adventures with Barrie Lynn, The Cheese Impresario. Another is titled “Walking in their shoes: a panel discussion with California winemakers and winery owners.” On June 9 there are three different seminars at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Some of the Celebrity Chefs this year include Eric Greenspan of The Foundry and Chang Sivilay of the Mandarin Hotel West Hollywood and Asia de Cuba. Stella Artois Beer Garden will offer several brew varieties on tap for all guests to enjoy. This year’s Food Trucks & Restaurants include Lobsta Truck, Heirloom, Tainamite, Green Truck, Slammin’ Sliders, Hot’s Kitchen, The Surfer Taco, Sweet Arleen’s Cupcake & Bread Puddings. Taste of Spain
El Cid presents authentic Andalusian Paella Sunday Suppers. Prepared on the grill in a Paellera on the outdoor patio. Diners can observe the spectacle of paella cooking while enjoying cocktails starting at 3 pm. The ingredients include chicken, mussels, clams, calamari, vegetables and saffron rice. The paella is ready around 5 p.m. and is available a la carte for $15 or ordered as a complete dinner to go along with Arte y Pureza’s Flamenco Dance Show taking place in the indoor showroom at 5:30 pm. Paella and Flamenco tickets are $30 when purchased in advance online through www.ElCidLA.com. A ticket includes one glass of Tinto de Verano (Spanish wine cocktail) or a soda, house salad, plate of Andalusian paella and the flamenco show.
