Cakes for a Cause at La Monarca Bakery
From April 22 to 28, 10 percent of all cake sales at La Monarca Bakery will be donated to ECOLIFE’s Monarch Conservation. The donation will help restore butterflies and forests through a collaborative planting of thousands of trees in Mexico. Chef David Coleman at Michael’s on Naples is offering a special menu featuring a trio of courses for $45 per person from April 19 to April 21. For Primi, chose shaved green and white asparagus; pork and ricotta ravioli or grilled octopus. His Secondi course is grilled Korobuta pork chop or pan seared speck wrapped in diver scallops or braised short ribs. The Westin Bonaventure is hosting its third cooking class of 2013. “Cooking on the Edge with Executive Chef Andreas Nieto” is this Sat. April 20. Learn how to prepare food from New Mexico. The menu includes chorizo con queso Fundido with black beans. The entrée is char grilled flat iron steak with roasted New Mexico green chili relish, blue corn flan and roasted ramps. Dessert is star anise baked “biscochitos” with New Mexico pinon coffee ice cream. On April 21, after viewing The Clock, a midnight “breakfast” will be offered. LACMA Café’s chef Jason Fullilove is preparing a four-course menu that includes house cured gravlax, LAC griddle, smoked pork belly with 63 degree egg and hash, and chocolate banana French toast. The cost is $45 per person and includes tax. Wine and other alcoholic beverages will be available a la carte.
