Hundreds of protesters demonstrated in front of the Turkish Consulate at 6300 Wilshire Boulevard on Wednesday to commemorate the Armenian Genocide and remember the estimated 1.5 million Armenians who died.
The demonstration outside the Turkish Consulate occurs annually on April 24 as part of Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. The Turkish government refuses to acknowledge that the Armenian Genocide occurred, beginning in 1915, and the protesters called for official government recognition of the tragedy. Demonstrators on foot chanted and waved Armenian flags, while motorists in vehicles draped in Armenia’s national colors honked as they drove by the building.
