A youth soccer coach convicted in February of molesting six boys in 2010 and 2011 was sentenced Tuesday to 225 years to life in prison.
Deputy District Attorney Rachel Greene, of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office’s Sex Crimes Division, said four of the victims’ parents spoke before sentencing. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Henry Hall sentenced Jose Duarte, 44. The victims were between the ages of 11 and 14 when the molestations occurred.
A jury deliberated less than a day on Feb. 14 before finding Duarte guilty of 20 counts of child molestation and five counts of sending harmful material. The crimes occurred primarily at the defendant’s residence in an undisclosed area of Los Angeles. He showed pornography to the victims before molesting them, according to authorities.
Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Duarte on June 27, 2011. Duarte formerly coached a youth team called USA that practiced and played at soccer fields located in Los Angeles and Glendale.
