Feuer will remain hospitalized “for the next few days”, according to Dave Jacobson, a spokesman for the Mike Feuer For City Attorney campaign. He suffered multiple rib fractures, a pulmonary contusion, and a lacerated spleen.

Feuer’s chief campaign strategist John Shallman released a statement Tuesday about the collision.

“Mr. Feuer … was involved in a car accident with a driver in a Chevy Tahoe who ran a red light. Mr. Feuer was traveling alone when his car was struck on the driver’s side. The impact was so severe that emergency personnel needed the ‘Jaws of Life’ to pull him out. [He] was immediately transported to a hospital and admitted by a trauma team,” according to the statement. “He is currently in stable condition and is recovering in the hospital’s intensive care unit. His condition is not life threatening and he is expected to make a full and prompt recovery. While his physicians have not yet determined a specific release date, Mr. Feuer anticipates being released soon.”

Los Angeles Police Department spokesman officer Bruce Borihanh said the collision occurred at the intersection of Figueroa Way and 23rd Street, just north of Adams Boulevard and West of the Harbor (101) Freeway. The location is north of the University of Southern California, where Lacey was being sworn-in at the Galen Center. Neither Borihahn or officer Grace Brady, with the LAPD’s South Traffic Bureau, could provide any further information.

Feuer represented the 42nd Assembly District from 2006 through Monday, when the new Assembly members were sworn-in. He formerly served on the Los Angeles City Council, representing the 5th District, and is currently is running for city attorney against incumbent Carmen Trutanich in the March 5 municipal primary election. Jacobson said Feuer plans to resume campaigning as soon as he recovers.

“We are not going to skip a beat,” Jacobson said. “The campaign is moving full speed ahead.”
