If you are looking for a great workout, with a little style and flair, and perhaps a tad of sexiness thrown in, then consider the tango. The tango may have originated in Spain or Morocco, but is most closely associated with Argentina.
Tango instructor, Linda Valentino, (no relation to Rudolph Valentino who made the tango a household word after his mesmerizing performance in the 1921 film, “The four Horsemen of the Apocolypse”) leads, A Puro Tango, a group of tango enthusiasts. Valentino holds classes regularly at Leonardo’s on La Brea Ave., and at the Hollywood Dance Center. After studying the dance form with many trips to Buenos Aires since 1990, she now specializes in Argentine tango and Milonga. Equally proficient in leading and following, she emphasizes good technique for social dancing. She offers classes for beginners as well as those who are more advanced at the tango.
Every Tuesday, she holds “Tango Mio” at Leonardo’s from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. During special events or nights with live music, the cost is $15 per person. Otherwise, the cost is $12. For a list of classes, dates and times, visit www.apurotango.com, or call (323)653-5883.
