Kinesiologist and Movement Specialist Meghan Pickrell announces the opening of Mind & Motion, an innovative new fitness studio at 5650 W. 3rd St. Mind & Motion offers personal training, small group fitness classes on the pilates apparatus, and a specialty class for actors.
Pickrell’s master’s degree in kinesiology, a decade of pilates teaching experience, and background as a ballerina has enabled her rise to the top of her field as a fitness and wellness expert.
Whereas the average Pilates teacher goes through only a six-month or one-year teacher-training program, Pickrell brings a comprehensive and scientific study of human movement to her clients.
Mind & Motion fitness classes are separated by levels to ensure that all clients engage in appropriate exercises for their ability level. At Mind & Motion clients earn color-coded buttons as they progress to the next level, much like a karate student would earn a belt. Classes are kept small, a maximum of four people at a time, so that participants receive plenty of individual attention. Clients will never be slowed down by newcomers and will advance quickly to the next level.
“Alignment, sequencing and timing are essential in order to maximize the benefits of exercise,” Pickrell said. “Because of my education in kinesiology, I understand the science behind human movement. Through awareness, education and exercise my clients learn to manage pain, increase strength, and balance their body in the most efficient manner possible.”
With the specialty class, Relax, Places, Action (RPA), designed specifically for actors and writers, Mind & Motion serves entertainment industry artists by teaching awareness and relaxation techniques. Pickrell, a former actress, developed RPA to help performers harness their anxiety through a combination of Pilates, yoga, bioenergetics and other relaxation techniques. “RPA helps actors and writers to get out of their head and into their body which is crucial for auditions and pitches.”
Whether interested in getting in shape, understanding postural tendencies, exercises to combat anxiety, or the science behind an amazing physique, Mind & Motion offers a program for you.
