During the Independence Day edition of the “Avoid the 100” DUI campaign, more than 650 people were cited for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in Los Angeles County from June 29 to July 4.
In 2011, in the four days leading up to the holiday, there were 836 DUI arrests. The 2011 campaign cannot be compared to this year as the 4th of July fell midweek this year, resulting in enforcement being heightened on both the weekend before and after.
DUI arrest data collection will continue through midnight Saturday, July 7, 2012. Law enforcement officials are continuing DUI efforts throughout the county and region. Additionally, CHP Areas throughout the state have all available officers patrolling freeways and county roads throughout the weekend.
