A 25-year-old suspect who was arrested for slashing two people with a box cutter at the Hollywood/Western Red Line station last Nov. 1 pleaded no contest on Tuesday to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

The suspect, Lang David Dunbar, also admitted the special allegations of committing great bodily injury and the personal use of a deadly weapon.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Terry Bork scheduled sentencing for March 22. Under the terms of a negotiated settlement, Dunbar is expected to receive a sentence of eight years and four months in state prison.

Dunbar assaulted the two victims at the Red Line station as they were leaving Hollywood after participating in Halloween festivities.

The defendant, who fled to Cleveland, Ohio following the attack, was charged in an arrest warrant on Nov. 15. He was later extradited back to California to face the felony charges.

Prosecutors said the attack occurred after the defendant made a derogatory comment about one of the victim’s Halloween costume, and her boyfriend intervened.  The female victim sustained a gash to the face and to the back of one arm, while the male victim was slashed in the neck.
