Hundreds of students, parents, staff and religious leaders gave a standing ovation for Debbi David on Nov. 3 as she was sworn in as the new head of school at St. James’ Episcopal School by Rev. Paul Kowalewski.
David, a longtime educator who for the last five years held the same position at Marymount of Santa Barbara, said she was very excited to begin her tenure at St. James’, which is located at 625 S. St. Andrews Pl. and is affiliated with St. James’ Episcopal Church on Wilshire Boulevard. St. James’ school has a highly diverse student body of approximately 340 students, offering preschool through 6th grade. The school recently opened a new art studio and science lab, and serves as a feeder school for Marlborough School for Girls, Harvard Westlake, and Campbell Hall. David said she plans to build on the school’s 43-year history of offering a challenging curriculum, and serving the local community.
“It was a privilege to be named head of school, and it’s just an honor to lead the school into the future,” David said. “There is so much energy in this school, and I want to capitalize on that energy. I want to build on the science program, provide greater challenges in mathematics, develop a broad program in the performing arts, and renew our relationship with every parent and the community.”
