Cooking Class at RockSugar

Celebrate the 60s
The Los Angeles Theatre Center will host a wine tasting on Friday, August 12, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guests will receive a ticket ($35 value) to a play from the new fall season. The event will highlight the 1960s, including photographs by Phil Stern from the John F. Kennedy Presidential Inaugural gala in 1961. There will be a 1960s fashion show, put on by Clever Vintage Clothing, with the clothes available for purchase. Wines from boutique wineries are available with artisan cheeses and chocolate truffles. Monday Movies, Manicures & Martinis
During the month of August, the W Hollywood will show movies on a 35-foot screen next to their outdoor bar and lounge. From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., sit next to the fire and sip martinis while enjoying Executive Chef Sascha Lyon’s small plate menu. Some of his specialties include cheddar cheese fries with short rib gravy, garlic shrimp and spicy sausage and a charcuterie plate. 1st Annual Int’l. Tea Festival

Cooking Classes at Culina
Join Culina’s Chef Victor Casanova this Saturday, August 13 for a three-course culinary journey through Italy. Casanova will teach guests how to make Dayboat scallops with fava bean passata (tomato puree), shaved radishes and Meyer lemon confit. The entrée course is a Tonnarelli “fat” Roman spaghetti cut on a chitarra (a frame strung with musical strings) with grilled eggplant, melted summer tomatoes, basil and pecorino. For the dessert lesson, Casanova prepares Ananas grilled pineapple skewers with coconut bomboloni and lime granita. The class begins at 2 p.m. and lasts for approximately two and a half hours. Join Suzanne Tract and Soliste Wines on August 16 at 7 p.m. for a multi-course meal with wine pairing. Start with a Devil’s Gulch char siu pork croissant paired with a Rose of Pinot Noir. Next, enjoy a chilled Humboldt Bay Kumamoto oysters with a Sauvignon Blanc. The entrée is a breast of duck with a poached Wyland Farm egg in star anise ginger broth, paired with a Pinot Noir and a Sonoma free-range veal rack with cannelloni beans and black kale served with a Syrah. Cliff’s Edge in Silver Lake
August is the “Month of Tuscany” at Cliff’s Edge. Chef Hugues Quintard is preparing a traditional Tuscan soup of fresh tomatoes and bread with basil and arugula. His Italian seafood salad offers mussels, scallops, squid and shrimp in an olive oil dressing. For entrees, chef Quintard is highlighting a wild boar rigatoni, meatballs with porcini and pecorino, lamb shank with fagioli and rabbit cacciatore. Finish with vanilla panna cotta or tiramisu. Pig Roast at Cecconi’s
Celebrate “Ferragosto”, a traditional Italian holiday celebrated in mid-August, at Cecconi’s. On August 14, they will roast a 200 lb. pig, stuffed with garlic, rosemary, fennel and other herbs, over an open fire for all to enjoy. Bring the family from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a plate of roast pork, accompanied with salad, apple sauce and crackling. For dessert there is gelato with waffle cones.
