Thousands of people lined up at Canter’s Deli Tuesday to celebrate its 80th anniversary. Canter’s rolled back the price of a corned beef sandwich to 80 cents that day — the cost in 1931 — to thank the loyal customers who have made the restaurant successful for three generations. Canter’s Deli is currently run by seven family members, including Jacqueline and Marc Canter. City Councilmember Paul Koretz, 5th District, also gave a proclamation honoring Canter’s Deli for its 80th anniversary during the special event. Canter’s began as a family-run delicatessen in 1931, and moved to Fairfax Avenue in January 1948. Canter’s Deli is located at 419 N. Fairfax Ave.
