The Los Angeles Chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) held its 15th annual Irene Epstein Memorial Scholarship program Tuesday. Fairfax High School seniors Da Eun Kim, Suzane Kim and Rebeca Rosales, each received a $1,500 scholarship from SAMPE. Past recipients have gone on to medical schools and have received advanced engineering and science degrees.
Da Eun Kim will graduate among the top students in her class and will attend UC San Diego, where she will major in psychology. Suzane Kim will graduate ranking in the top two percent of her class and will attend Mount St. Mary’s College, where she will major in nursing. Rosales went on to attend California State University Los Angeles and is studying counseling.
Joan Pelico, District Deputy for Councilmember Paul Koretz, 5th District, presented the recipients with proclamations from the Los Angeles City Council.
Irene Epstein, who passed away in 1996, held a strong desire to assist financially needy and academically deserving students to attend college. To date, the Irene Epstein Memorial Scholarship program has awarded 50 scholarships to Fairfax High School seniors.
