A 63-year-old Los Angeles resident was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on March 30 while crossing the street, and police are seeking any witnesses to the collision to complete their investigation.
The incident occurred around 10:40 a.m., near the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Cotner Avenue in the West Los Angeles area.
The victim, Kelly Shimizu, was walking westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard in a marked crosswalk.
The driver of the truck, an unidentified 64-year-old man, was driving a 1990 Volvo tractor with a double trailer westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard, and when he made a right turn to northbound Cotner Avenue, one of the trailers struck Shimizu. Paramedics pronounced Shimizu dead at scene.
Investigators do not believe there was any crime. The truck driver stopped at the scene of the collision and there is no evidence he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The collision appears to be an accident, but detectives with the LAPD’s West Traffic Division would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision.
