A 17-year-old female suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of a 13-year-old girl who was found on Feb. 20 in an apartment in the 1300 block of South 3rd Avenue.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division were summoned to the apartment complex by an anonymous caller, and found the girl suffering from a single gunshot wound. The incident occurred in the Country Club Park District, near Pico Boulevard and Arlington Avenue.
Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel pronounced the girl dead at scene, and investigators are withholding both the suspect’s and victim’s names because they are juveniles. It was not disclosed whether the suspect or victim lived at the apartment or were visiting. Investigators believe the victim was shot on Feb. 20 while she was with a group of friends inside the apartment.
A motive for the murder has not been determined, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Wilshire Division homicide detectives John Jamison or Mark Holguin at (213)473-0446. During weekends and off-hours, call the LAPD’s 24-hour, toll-free hotline at (877)LAPD-24-7.
