In anticipation of the 50th anniversary of his conducting debut with the Israel Philharmonic, Maestro Zubin Mehta received the 2,434th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 1. Mehta has enjoyed a long career as a conductor of both classical music orchestras and operas, and by 1961, had conducted the Vienna, Berlin and Israel Philharmonic Orchestras. Mehta served as the music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic from 1962 to 1978, and led the New York Philharmonic from 1978 to 1991. In 1981, the Israel Philharmonic awarded him the title of Music Director for Life. He has conducted more than 3,000 concerts and has led orchestral tours spanning five continents.
