The Wilton Place Green Triangle traffic island project was officially dedicated on Feb. 17. Triangular, landscaped medians have been installed at the corner of Wilton Place at 1st and 2nd Streets to beautify the intersections and make crossing safer. The median at Wilton Place and 2nd Street will also include decorative crosswalks that will be installed in the coming weeks. Pedestrians previously had to cross both Wilton Place and Ridgewood Place when crossing east or westbound, but now can stop on the median.
Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge, 4th District, said the project will be a significant improvement for the Wilton Place Historic District. The project was made possible through a collaboration between the Community Redevelopment Agency, Los Angeles (CRA/LA) and the Ridgewood-Wilton Neighborhood Association.
“We all came together, and the city and the creative forces in this neighborhood have made a difference,” LaBonge said. “This is a traffic calming program, but it is also the type of improvement that really enhances the neighborhood.”
