Two officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division were injured on Feb. 17 when their patrol car collided with a Lexus that allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign or yield to the emergency vehicle.

The collision occurred around 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of 3rd Street and Plymouth Boulevard in Hancock Park. The officers were responding to a call of an assault and were traveling westbound on 3rd Street when the driver of the Lexus crossed 3rd Street in front of them. According to Officer Larry Johnson, with the LAPD’s West Traffic Division, the officers had their emergency lights flashing and sirens operating at the time of the crash. The force of the collision caused the Lexus, which was driven by an unidentified 17-year-old girl, to drive onto the sidewalk and into some bushes at the corner.

Johnson said the collision is still under investigation, and did not know how fast either vehicle was traveling. Both officers were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Johnson said one officer suffered two fractured wrists, while the other suffered cuts and bruises. Both officers have been released from the hospital and are recovering. The female victim suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Johnson said the teenaged driver was licensed, and no citation has been issued pending the completion of the investigation.
