Flowers were placed Monday at the Hollywood Walk of Fame star of Jack LaLanne, the fitness expert and television personality who died on Jan. 23 at age 96 of respiratory failure related to pneumonia. LaLanne is considered to be the founder of the modern fitness movement. “The Jack LaLanne Show”, a television program featuring exercise routines and information on nutrition and healthy living, debuted in San Francisco in 1951, and aired nationally from 1959 through the mid ‘80s. LaLanne also founded a chain of fitness gyms bearing his name and appeared in numerous television commercials. LaLanne’s star is located at 7000 Hollywood Blvd., next to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
