A gunman shot and critically wounded a victim in Koreatown on Dec. 19, and then shot and killed himself, according to investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Division.
Police received a call around 5:30 a.m. about a shooting in the 1100 block of South Irolo Street. When officers arrived, they found a male victim standing in the street, suffering from gunshot wound. Moments later, the officers heard a gunshot nearby and began searching the area.
They found a second man lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound, and a gun was recovered nearby. Paramedics rushed the first victim to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. The second man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on an investigation that is still underway, investigators believe that the two men, both of Korean decent, were formerly friends.
The victim with the self-inflicted gunshot, 54-year-old Young Moo Choi, had been arguing with the other victim, pulled out a gun and shot him, according to investigators. The surviving victim was not identified.
