A male and female suspect have been arrested and charged for an armed robbery that occurred at the Carmel liquor store in West Hollywood on Oct. 3.
The incident gained much media attention last week after a deputy who responded to the robbery near Santa Monica Boulevard and Havenhurst Drive mistook the manager of the store as one of the suspects, and fired eight shots at the employee. The manager, who the deputy thought was pointing a gun, was not struck by the gunfire. The sheriff’s department’s Internal Affairs Bureau and the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review, an outside organization overseeing the sheriff’s department, is currently reviewing the incident.
The robbery was investigated by both detectives from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station and the department’s Major Crimes Bureau. Officials would not disclose how they located the suspects, but officials had obtained video surveillance footage from the liquor store with the suspects’ images. On Oct. 6, they arrested the 17-year-old male suspect at an undisclosed location in South Los Angeles. His name is being withheld because he is a minor.
On Oct. 10, investigators arrested the female suspect, Ronni Reed, 20, after she surrendered at the Los Angeles area office of her attorney. Reed is a resident of Palmdale.
“A hard-working team of sheriff’s detectives worked day and night to bring these suspects into custody,” said Capt. Kelly Fraser, commanding officer of the West Hollywood Station.
The juvenile suspect has been charged with the robbery in West Hollywood and is being investigated for a string of other armed robberies in Norwalk and Artesia. He is an admitted gang member, according to authorities. Reed has been charged for the robbery in West Hollywood, but has not been implicated in any of the other robberies.
