The body of a 31-year-old West Hollywood resident who had been missing since jumping off the Venice Pier on July 5 was found on July 11 floating a half-mile north of the pier.
Officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed Monday that it was Brian Patrick Dunn, and officially ruled the death an accidental drowning. Dunn had been celebrating the Fourth of July at the beach, and was “very intoxicated” before he jumped off the pier into heavy surf around 2:30am, according to Lt. Jim Hiltz, with the U.S. Coast Guard. Los Angeles County lifeguards and Coast Guard officials searched a two-mile area of the ocean north and south of the pier before calling off the search at dusk on July 5. A fisherman located the body around 8:20am on Sunday, according to Inspector Don Kunitomi, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
