As Toyota’s chief executives were testifying to congress on Capitol Hill this week, the faulty acceleration features on their cars may have wreaked some havoc locally, when a man driving a Toyota Camry crashed into the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.
Classes were cancelled at the acting school on Monday after the car crashed into the side of the school’s building during the morning rush hour.
“An elderly gentleman driving a Toyota Camry said his brakes failed,” said Marion Griffin, a spokesperson for the institute. “He couldn’t stop the car and veered into the wall of the building.”
Griffin said there was extensive damage to the building, and classes were cancelled for the day. The institute brought in engineers to examine the structure, who deemed the building was safe, and classes resumed on Tuesday.
“There were no injuries, thankfully,” Griffin said. “And we had classes up and running again the next day. Everything’s back to normal now, not much drama really.”
Or, the drama is back inside the acting school, at least.
